Details:

Full production started in 2005 and through 2009, 820 SD70ACEs have been built for the us Mexico. In addition 10 units from bonuses 2008 order were diverted to BP. Nine more were exported to Venezuela and 46 built for BP billions iron ore operation in Libra, Australia. In addition, the inverters were moved from inside long hood to a box on walkway behind cab.

Much of the external design is based on sd90 series locomotives. The engine and electrical system are similar to sd70mac, but updated with newer technology.

Some of these features include the full height nose door and rectangular windshields, large flared radiators with two fans, positioning dynamic brake equipment at rear long hood. The engine drives an alternator producing ac current that is rectified to dc and then chopped back into power traction motors. Four demonstrator locomotives were built in 2003, followed by 20 pre-production units for Cs union pacific painted six paint schemes commemorating the railroads that merged into ups and renumbered them year of mergers.
