Details:

Broadway limited 4261 ho sd9 NS 55 paragone 3 sound dc dcc run, 50 units made. This consisted of the introduction new locomotive model numbers, sw9 12 f9a b, gp9, and sd9.

Great standard sound without receiver and sub woofer. The grill assembly protrudes from side of hood whereas with gp7 grills are fit flush.

With the advent of 1954, edm made a conservative marketing push against competition announcement their nine line series. The radiators are grouped together at end of long hood and not separated as was seen on gp7.

Riding on six axles, three-motor trucks, they were designed to offer more starting tr active effort in road service than the gp7. As built, the sd7 very closely resembles sd9 with visual spotting features being boarding steps and a variation of classification lights. These trucks were so smooth that the sd7 was compared to riding in a luxury car. The norfolk southern sd9s were workhorses of NS Piedmont division.

In appearance, they are very similar to the gp7 only with a longer hood. The sd7 for special duty was a massive locomotive at 60 feet 8 inches from couplet to and weighing 360,000 pounds. Before retirement both locomotives serviced the ford plant hauling auto racks.

With the sd7, edm introduced lightweight lexical truck which enabled these locomotives to be used on branch lines as well for road service. With a maximum speed range between 55 and 89 miles per hour, depending on the gearing ratio selected, tr active force of 90,000 pounds, sd series was here to stay.
